Modeling vendor costs at scale
Two fictional vendors quote different platform fees and usage rates. Compare annual costs at three adoption levels and see when the lower-cost choice changes.
My role
I modeled what vendors would cost at three user volumes. That analysis helped inform technology purchases.
What goes into the estimate
- Set adoption assumptions
- Apply pricing formulas
- Compare annual totals
- Check the crossover
Compare costs at each user volume
Annual cost by adoption level
What I would check before buying
Annual total equals the platform fee plus billable users multiplied by the annual rate. Both fictional quotes come to $84,000 per year at 30,000 users. A procurement review would also check how the contract defines billable users and whether implementation or support costs change the comparison.
